Eastern Tent Caterpillar

This pest is primarily found in crabapples and cherries. They make their tents in the crotches of the branches and on warm days will emerge from the web and feed on the expanding foliage. Damage can range from light to heavy defoliation. This pest is dark and moderately hairy and have a distinct white stripe down the length of their bodies. The egg mass of this pest can be found on the twigs and appears as a dark glistening collar. Each egg mass can contain 150 to 350 eggs. The egg masses can be pruned out to help control this pest. We can spray a registered pesticide to help control this pest.
